Mt. Nantai-san(男体山) is located in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, at an altitude of 2,486 meters.
Located on the northern shore of Lake Chuzenji(中禅寺湖), it is one of the highest mountains in the Kanto region and has been known as an object of mountain worship since long ago, and the inner shrine of the Futarasan shrine(二荒山神社) is located at the top of the mountain.
It is counted as one of 100 Famous Mountains in Japan.
The trailhead for the shrine can be reached by bus from JR Nikko Station or Tobu Nikko Station.
To enter the mountain, you must submit a climbing plan and pay the entrance fee (1,000 yen) at the shrine.

How to get to the trailhead

1. [Outward] Tobu Nikko Sta. to Futarasan shrine
Take a bus to Tobu-Nikko Station, get on a bus bound for Yumoto Onsen from the rotary in front of the station, and get off at Futarasan Jinja Chūgūshi(Bus stop number 30).

2. [Return] Futarayama Shrine Nakamiya Shrine → Tobu Nikko Station
From the bus stop in front of Futaarasan shrine, take the bus bound for Nikko Station and get off at Tobu Nikko Station.
